On the 21st of October, our 1st year boys played against St. Benildus College in what proved to be a rip-roaring spectacle. As soon as the first whistle blew, the boys were off to a brilliant start, displaying an attacking verve that reflected their hard work on the training pitch. This was rewarded as David's raced to an early lead. However as soon as the first goal was scored, Benildus really upped their intensity and thwarted David's offence for the rest of the first half.
As soon as the second half started, the pace was set to be difficult for both teams. The pressure continued to build until Benildus overwhelmed the Greystones outfit and managed to score a goal, drawing the match level at 1-1. A tight period followed which led to the match going to extra time. Both teams were really going at it, scoring two goals each, leading to a remarkable 3-3 score line by the end of extra time.
Having ended the match in a hard fought tie, it moved to penalties. Unfortunately, Benildus managed to score all of their shots against the David's goalkeeper, seeing them ultimately win them the tie. However it was great experience for the 1st Years going forward, and it will help them to improve upon their already brilliant skills.
