SEK International School Visit

On Wednesday the 19th of March, junior students from various Spanish classes welcomed students from SEK international school to help celebrate a belated St Patrick's Day (or Irish Week as it has recently been dubbed by Mr Carey). This day meant that students from all over the world could both learn and experience Irish culture in its most popular forms, such as traditional music and the language.

For the first part of the day, students competed in groups to win a quiz regarding all things Irish, this included food and especially geography.

Once this was complete, the students got the opportunity to listen to the school's very own trad band perform a song to get them all into the spirit.

Just before lunch, the international students were taught basic Irish phrases such as ‘how are you?’ and ‘what is your name?’. In return, our students got to learn these phrases in whatever language their partner was from.

During lunch the students got the chance to be shown around the new school building and once the bell rang, were brought out onto the astro for a friendly game of football. We were certainly shown all aspects of competitiveness from both sides but overall the game was enjoyed by all. Even the spectators were happy to be there if it meant a break in the sun from schoolwork !

A big thank you to the Spanish Department for the wonderful day and to SEK who were so willing to immerse themselves in our culture for the day.
